Better than the iPhone - Adobe PDF ISO

Check out PDF to become an open, ISO standard

http://www.desktoplinux.com/news/NS2782821882.html

The rise of ODF (Open Document Format) has finally nocked some sense into Adobe.

My Hope is that Adobe PDF viewer will be lite again and back to normal. I do not need to fill out forms using PDFs. Those that do, can get a new layer to thier lite reader. Please oh please.

My letter to Steve Jobs about the iPhone...

Dear Steve Jobs,

I am anxiously awaiting the ability to buy my iPhone this June.

Since you have a few months before you launch let me share with you what you need to focus on once you get the killer app (the phone) working as you showed.

Today I use a Microsoft based smart phone, the 8125. It runs on Cingular so I'm poised and ready to extend my contract two more years when I get my iPhone.

Your right, the 8125 has baby apps on it. They work but not like a desktop app. Not like what you showed at the keynote.

Several things about the 8125  phone do work well, but not perfectly. In fact no phone I  have ever used for the last 10 years has worked the way it should.

So please read my wish list today, so that you have time to get your engineers to address these issues and get them worked out by launch.

1. Rings, Vibrations. -
Let me have vibration mode for meetings. but you need to have different vibrations.

1 for calls
1 for emails
1 for sms messages
1 for voicemail
The key thing is to have a emergency override ok feature. if a call comes from this person ring once then vibrate or something like that.

If a sms message comes from my server with 'alert' in title, then please turn off vibrate and flash the phone and vibrate and ring an alarm that i choose.

The key is to add "Circle" or "Sphere" to each contact. Each Sphere has a different rule set. My key family members get one treatment and my key clients and co-works get another. Everyone else is treated just like everyone else.

2. Alarms - please oh please let me set a wake alarm for day of week. If its saturday then don't wake me at 6am just because I forgot to turn off the phone.

Also a wake alarm is different from a voicemail alert, sms recevied alert, or email alert, remember that.

3. Quick answer with preset voice - i get a call, its from my wife, i'm in a meeting, it's in vibrate (stealth)mode, i want to touch the screen with one finger and send her a voice pre-recorded., "sorry sweety, in meeting, i'll call you right back or you can try to send me a text msg if it cant wait", then after i get out of meeting, i want the phone to automatically call her back. or at least remind me to do so.

4. Voicemail. - our current office system is a VOIP system. it emails me an attachment with the vm. I'd like to be able to forward voicemails I receive to other people directly to their vm or to their email as an attachment.

Thanks Steve,

Looking forward to the next 30 years of innovation from Apple.

I don't care about the closed system of the iphone since you deliver the key apps I need. I have an open system now and have not installed anything on it.

You don't need to be labeled a smart phone, you have created the first intelligent phone.

I have not seen the holster and look forward to seeing what you have in mind for that.

jim

Voted Most Community Minded Businessperson

I'm proud to have been voted by the readers of the Sneak Preview to be the Most Community Minded Businessperson in their annual "Best of Ashland" readers poll.

I was at an ashland independent film festival board meeting tonight when someone else on the board announced it.

I am humbled. Especially when Alan DeBoer is on that list. He does so much more for our community. He deserves this award year after year. He is a great role model.

Global Warming?

Global Warming?

It's cold. It's snowing. They closed the schools. They closed the roads.
They told people to stay home. I'm all alone at the office.

Portland - Not working today
Texas - Ice Storms
California - Fruit Gone, Jobs Gone

It's freaking cold out there.
