'This is for the species boys and girls...' Doogie said that in some Bug Movie Right?

So I'm sitting here minding my own business, reading a magazine about the new wonder-filled Playstation 3 and bam, there is a picture of a Wasp and Cockroach.Ampulex Compressa

The wasp is on the cockroach and according to the article it's being radio controlled by the wasp.

No Way!

It's April fools, right. They like me, are bored waiting for the BIG Apple 30th year anniversary.

So I google. Ampulex Compressa, and unless the whole world is in on it or it's some sort of urban legend, it's TRUE!

Listen to this. The Ampulex wasp, gains control of the roach by penetrating the brain. It drives the roach back to its lair. and then the wasp blocks the door with pebbles and mounts the roach again, this time the wasp legs an egg under the roach. The egg hatches a larvae and it chews a hole and goes into the roach.

The larvae eats the roach from the inside out and hatches again in four weeks, as a full grown wasp.

WOW! Forget science fiction, Quake 3 and Alien, this is for real. Can you imagine?

Microsoft Delays VISTA till 2007...

It's amazing how they claim that they will delay launch so that it will ensure greater out of the box experience because the vendors have to focus on holiday sales.

Windows chief Jim Allchin made the following statements, stumbling his way through the reason why the delay had to happen.

"Product Quality is the reason."

"Customers wanted us to be very precise."

"High Assurance date is now 2007."

"Delayed a few weeks. Optimize for the entire industry."

"Available in two stages. "

"November 2005 for business and January 2007 for consumers."

I'm not sure why, but I don't think of Vista as a consumer OS.

They should of said the same thing about XBOX 360.

Speaking of which its amazing that they have not launched a XBOX nano. Maybe this year at CES. Won't that be a shocker. Maybe I'll give my PSP to the dog.

SONY waits one year

Ok, so the PS3 is now officially delayed until November, making it launch 1 year later than xbox 360.

What does this mean?

More launch titles?

Lower entry price point. Wait for the market to catch up.

More realistic demand and pipeline fullfillment? Don't do what Microsoft did.

How is sony doing on unit sales so far?

according to sony (http://www.us.playstation.com/NewsStories.aspx?id=3896)

15 million PSPs have sold world wide.

PS2 has sold more than 100 MILLION units.

Now I'll go find out how many Gameboys and XBoxes have sold.

PSP drops price 50 bucks and add on units are coming out for GPS and VOIP with eyetoy type of camera.

It is now supposed to support RSS feeds and it will play Macromedia flash 6.0 games.

ok, here is what i found. - very difficult because i can't find a nice saite i can trust like yahoo does for movies with an industry breakdown. but after a little research this one looks good. http://forum.pcvsconsole.com/viewthread.php?tid=8498&page=2

Worldwide Hardware Sales (End of 2005)
PS2 - 101.37 million
Xbox - 24 million
GameCube - 20.61 million
Xbox 360 - 1.5 million
Game Boy Advance - 74.25 million
PSP - 15.03 million
Nintendo DS - 14.43 million

ok, so what does this mean. Well Microsoft told us they were going to sell 1 billion consoles world wide. yet look at the history. what do you think?

Is it April yet?

With inches of snow piling up on my deck in a steady stream tonight and the possibility of not being able to get to work tomorrow, I have nothing left to do but dream. What do I dream about? Why Apple of course. April 1 is just around the corner and it marks 30 years of Apple.

What if it's true? The touch screen, video ipod. Origami done right? new ipod dream

What a let down.

Well I wasted last night, losing sleep, actually excited about the Origami Launch.

I thought for sure that Microsoft was about to do the next big thing.

And they did it with little or no fan fare.

Introducing the…

Ultra-Mobile PC or UMPCUltra-Mobile PC Ultra-Mobile PC

Check out the site.

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/umpc/default.mspx

What an incredibly stupid name – the UMPC – UMMMMM PC – Makes me want to put the lime in the cocoa nut and shake it all up.

I’m so let down.

Over $1,000 bucks! You have to be kidding me. Oh yeah man, Lets go buy one for everyone in the house, NOT!

They are big and bulky.

They try to do too much.

The batteries don’t last every long.

And Microsoft has said that it is 5 years of hard work?

Come on!

This is as bad as the 360 rollout. Maybe worse. At least the 360 Microsoft makes and sells for only $399 which is a steal, but it suffers from the worse rollout I’ve ever witnessed.

Ok, back to work and back to waiting for Sony or Apple to fix this.

Of course I might change my mind after I actually get to see one, but you don’t see me with a tablet PC do you?

Music Site done Right!

Check out this site. http://www.sandithom.com/index.php very well done. Most musician sites I go to for local bands are so poorly done. This one has viewers all over the world.

Makes me want to do a "Musician in a Box".

Origami Project: the Mobile PC running Windows XP.

Yup, I have two things to talk about here. In a few days we will find out the official word on Microsoft’s Origami.

Remember years ago when I dreamt up the Compass? I barely do as well. I just checked and Damon remembers it but doesn’t know where it is. Dang.

Regardless, it was a pad, with thumb buttons. It was a little like the Star Trek Padd, but real. It was designed to be lightweight, fast, simple.

I’ll keep looking for the mockup. It was wrapped in rubber so that it felt good in your hands.

If you go the site (Please do http://www.origamiproject.com/2/ , it’s the form factor of the screen you will get, brilliant!) and view source you see the headline of this entry.

Origami Project:  the Mobile PC running Windows XP

-->

<html>

remember the posting a few weeks back that was about the video. It speaks to freedom and print being dead. the problem is that they make it seem like a media pc is required. oh no mr. bill. we shall see.

So that confirms it. XP running on a tablet pc. Cool. Remember a few years ago when I was running Linux (full GUI) on the webpad from Sonic Blue.

Then of course there is Ruiz’s favorite the Nokia 770. it’s really starting to get exciting.

With Microsoft finally stepping up.

Too bad they wasted years on Tablet PC and ruined the brand. It's too expensive, has issues, and not simple.

See a nice list with pics of linux based tablets here, like a museum.

http://www.linuxdevices.com/articles/AT8349493265.html

If Microsoft does it right...

Microsoft really needs to sell this for $499 and it doesn’t need to replace my ipod. It just needs to do a few simple things.

1.      surf wirelessly. 802.11 – simply like the mac. Just sense the best and go.

2.      be super secure. – out of the box, don’t let me get hacked.

3.      be fast enough. – take out all the high end graphics crap. I want raw speed to open and close apps. I will never open photoshop and I will never play doom on it.

4.      let me run office so I can read my stuff on the go.

5.      surf in tall mode. Work in wide mode. Yeah, its an easy little mercury switch that senses how I’m holding it.

Mr. Bill, If you do those things very well I will buy one and I will promise you so will everyone else in the world and you can keep on keepin’ on.

What is number 2 – Well Intel has some too, in the Microsoft way (which is different from apple’s way) they ‘partner’ with hardware manufactures to build the units. Intel, Apple’s new partner will show off their origami pads as well. They did today. So what will this do to Apple? Apple just switched to Intel.

Will it piss them off?

Nah… Apple is about to release the most beautiful one of all. April 1st, 2006. The 30th year anniversary edition. Not only will it do everything I mentioned above, it will be very thin and look very, very good. (But I’m sure it will cost more) ;)

Ok, so enjoy the news, Origami is about to change all of us once again, and I’m ready for the ride.

If your reading this looking for the paper-folding art kind of Origami then check out this link. MIT Origami Club. I am very very impressed. It's Magic really.

When Mrs. Superman Dies...

It's one thing to be in a horse accident, become paralyzed and become a role model for so many people as you fight until the day you die to raise awareness and provide a great life for your family.

It's another thing when in just a very short time, your wife dies too.

Sadly today, Mrs. Dana Reeve succumbed to lung cancer (she was a never-smoker) and she was only 44.

Dana Reeve Passes Away at Age 44

She will be remembered in my family as a person that stood by her husband for years with humor, grace and dignity. For better or for worse meant something.

She will be remembered for being the Chair of the Christopher Reeve Foundation (CRF) and founder of the Christopher and Dana Reeve Paralysis Resource Center.

http://www.christopherreeve.org/

Dena and I are saddened today by this news and our hearts and prayers go out to their surviving son, he is only 13.

So it’s time to look at your life partner and think really hard. Life is too short, grab hold and don’t let go. Love and life are meant to be shared. Why do we fight and squabble over the little things. Why are people so unhappy?

Post Posting Note: A few of my family wanted to know if we knew the Reeve's. No, sorry if this posting mislead you. Dena and I talked this morning about it when we first heard and it was news that touched us both. That's all.

Like I ALWAYS say, I really get a lot from Frank Capra's "It's a Wonderful Life". Every person's life is important because of all the other lives that are touched, even in-directly.

And from the acceptance speech during the Oscars the other night by Reese Witherspoon, who spoke of June Carter, "People used to ask June how she was doing, and she used to say -- "I'm just trying to matter." And I know what she means. You know, I'm just trying to matter, and live a good life and make work that means something to somebody."

Dana Reeve mattered and I hope it inspires us all to matter.
