Google is at it again

Dang they take up a lot of space on my site. ;) I didn't even post my feelings on the slap down they got for trying to scan every copyrighted material they could get thier hands on.

ok, the new Google Desktop 2 is sweet. I with they would just license eyePortal from Tim and make that the desktop.

but they did not come out with a mac version. of course not. I belive that goggle will replace windows soon. what do you need an OS for. even if they take 10% of the desktops (OS) from Microsoft, think of it, the dollars will be huge, much bigger than if they went after OSX thank goodness.

But today, I see they released Google Talk, a super cool IM client. I love it. They are taking direct aim at the desktop and we shall see what will happen.

They are promoting VOIP free from Google Talk to Google Talk customers and they say that they are using open standards.

Lets see how much momentum this gets.

They know they are leaving us Mac people out but I think they are on a mission.

I'm click happy!

Yes! I did it!

I bought a mighty mouse!

Plugged it in to my PowerBook G4. No drivers to install. It just worked. The single button look and two button operation is amazing. I rest my hand on it and 'click' the left button, without worrying about my other finger resting on the other button.

My biggest worry before i got it?

I did not want to have to life my fingers off the mouse to click. I had nightmares about watching my clicking turn into a single monty python moment of finger down and press. I have been right mouse button clicking all over the place. the finder, the dock, the document I'm writing this instant.

Mighty Mouse!

I'm click happy.

It's one of those things. how did I ever live without it. I've been thinking it's time to dust off my iSight and try that again. The guys at the office are more and more expecting me to be on some form of IM.

More one button - two button clicking goodness coming your way soon.

Look, Ma, No Schoolbooks!

Wired News reports, “Students at Empire High School here started class this year with no textbooks — but it wasn’t because of a funding crisis. Instead, the school issued iBooks — laptop computers by Apple Computer — to each of its 340 students, becoming one of the first U.S. public schools to shun printed textbooks. School officials believe the electronic materials will get students more engaged in learning.” [Aug 19, 2005]

Ashland fired upon in Jordan

The USS Ashland was nearly hit by a missle today in Jordan.

Whoa? What is the USS Ashland?

from the Navy:

The USS ASHLAND (LSD 48) is an amphibious warfare ship designed to transport Marines and their combat gear throughout the world and then to launch and support assault landing craft and helicopters during amphibious operations against hostile shores. ASHLAND carries Landing Craft Air Cushion vehicles (LCACs), as well as other convential landing craft. LCACs are non-displacement assault landing craft. Coupled with the ability to land a number of naval helicopters, ASHLAND is extremely capable in spearheading an amphibious assault against a wide range of beaches which, before were not operationally feasible.

Officially designated as a Landing Ship, Dock (LSD), ASHLAND accomplishes her mission throughout he use of a well deck which is flooded to recover and launch landing craft. After leaving the ship, the assault craft are directed towards the objective by the ship's Combat Information Center (CIC). A 440-ft well deck, a flight deck able to land and launch CH-53E helicopters, the Navy's latest diesel propulsion and engineering technology, advanced communication and combat systems, 20- and 60-ton cranes, expanded repair facilities, complete medical and dental facilities, and troop berthing accommodations for embarked Marines combine to place ASHLAND on the leading edge of amphibious warfare in the 21st century.

DOOM the movie?

I am a big fan of cross genre dressing. Comic Books that become movies and video games that become movies. I love that. I will not wait in line for DOOM but I will buy it when it comes out on DVD this Christmas.

What would you do to get an ibook for $50?

According to this CNN/AP posting, Henrico County school system in Virginia offered 1,000 slightly abused iBooks to county residents at $50 bucks each and people behaved like animals. Reminds me of Christmas sale shopping at WalMart. Always brings out the best in everyone.

Cool thing in practice. I hope someone has serial numbers that we can get a report on how many are resold on ebay and for how much and where they all end up.

And how many will get used for educational purposes. I'd rather see 3 year cycles on hardware, with sales to non-profits.

Microsoft refreshes Acrylic Free Beta

Microsoft is releasing a new version of the beta based on feedback of Acrylic. It's technology based on a program called Expression they aquired in 2003 from creature house.

Download and play with it. It expires in October. As vista rolls out and all the new 4 letter formats come flying out of redmond, it will be interesting if they make an impact in the photoshop community with this program.

Sorry to my Mac friends. Even though expression worked on a mac when they were aquired, this version is Windows only. Just like when Microsoft aquired Bungie. Halo was developed for the Mac, but once MS bought them, well, you know the rest.

from Microsoft's site.

Vector? Bitmap? It doesn't care.

"Acrylic" (code name) is the professional design program that brings together the richness of pixel-based painting and the performance of editable vector graphics for a more fluid and flexible creative workflow. Create sophisticated designs and graphic elements for your on-screen, web, and print projects.

Nickelodeon is at it again. Between this and the new hotel, it should be a great year for viacom shareholders.   I know i'll be taking the kids to see this one.

crazy graffiti site

graffiti isn't one of my favorite things.

I've lived in socal my entire childhood. where it makes ugly the place you call home. because its a simple tag or mark like a dog does to its territory. it becomes spam. but this is art, it has purpose and it speaks loudly. when the olypics came to LA, they took the best taggers and paid them to paint, and it worked. for a while. also the vandalism of placement not defacement is brilliant. pranky but fun.

I loved the shopping cart. i found myself smiling after reading the manifesto. i almost could not read it all. it's like the holocaust museum in DC, it overwhelmed me. sadly humanity can be so dark, that brightness comes from crazy people and crazy things.

The web has been boring lately. no good sites on quads, jetskis or horse trailers can be found. not a single one. it's quite sad, really.

I hope you enjoy this diversion. http://www.banksy.co.uk/

does the web suck?

I just got a new (used) quad, 2 jetskis and a seado this week. I went to google and can't find a single site worth anything to learn about my new toys, how to care for them and how to ride/work them. nothing.

It saddens me. How am I supposed to be manly if i can't read how on the web?

If you know of any great resource sites, let me know.
